夏日的最後一朵玫瑰
夏天終於過完了.
美國的地方自治權很大, 每州有每州的法律與規矩, 但是這個橫越四個時區的國家, 對於夏天的定義倒是相當一致. 在他們的認知裡, 夏天從五月底的Memorial Day (陣亡將士紀念日) 開始, 到九月初的 Labor Day (勞動節) 結束. 一過完Labor Day, 學校就開學了, 包括海濱浴場在內的各種遊樂設施及活動也陸續收攤.
就算沒有國定假日宣告夏天的結束, 光憑自己的感官, 就能夠察覺到季節的變換. 首先是沒蓋被子的話半夜會被微涼的夜風冷醒. 市場上出現南瓜玉米等秋天收成的作物, 嬌美的玫瑰被一叢叢的菊花所取代. 皮膚比較敏感的人, 也開始感到空氣逐漸變得乾燥, 是把保濕乳液拿出來用的時候了.
